The AiM MXm is a compact-sized, fully featured dash logger for racers needing ECU or engine sensor data while having the option of adding multiple HD cameras. From Spec Miata to Porsche GT3, the new AiM MXm is ready to monitor and record your vehicle and driver health and performance.
The AiM MXm has been designed to acquire and display data coming from your ECU, the internal accelerometer and gyro, as well as from the internal GPS receiver, analog/digital inputs and predefined math channels. The spectrum of data acquired can also be incremented adding expansion modules.
Two configurable RGB alarm LEDs. You choose the conditions, you choose the colors. Select a solid alarm or flashing one – and the flashing frequency, choose to have an accompanying text message, and set the alarm priorities.

ECU Connection: MXm acquires data from the ECU of your vehicle: the list of available ECU drivers (CAN, RS232 or K-line), constantly updated and upgraded, includes > 1,000 different ECUs, either Stock and Racing.

You choose the conditions that turn them on and off, their color, and select a solid or flashing alarm (and the flashing frequency). This device is an industry-first, providing virtual coaching in real time and showing a calculated optimal lap. Real time coaching tells you how to go faster in each corner, with audio instructions, so you can keep your eyes up at all times. This is a stark contrast to existing systems which only provide feedback after a corner or after your session. The Catalyst uses your measured optimal lap to guide you to your personal maximum performance, rather than the performance of a professional racing driver.
Overview
Garmin Catalyst uses accelerometers, GPS, video, and the most sophisticated algorithms to evaluate your driving performance and then suggest ways to improve (just like a human coach). Through the display and audio, Catalyst provides a real-time assessment of performance using both gentle suggestions and positive reinforcement. No, it won't clap when you get it right but it does use real-world phrases and encouragement - such as "brake less", "apex later", or "keep pushing". Catalyst is perpetually evaluating and assessing your performance so it can optimize your lap and get you in line. After your session, review track maps showing opportunities for improvement as well as "heat map" displays of deceleration, acceleration, apexes, and speeds.
Display & Audio
Catalyst uses a 6.95" super wide view LCD IPS screen with vivid TFT colors. The LCD is a touchscreen, able to control functions without the need for a remote control, app, or a laptop. Coaching or playback audio is available via 3.5mm headphone jack or Bluetooth(TM) to your headset or car stereo. The on-screen layout is not programmable.CameraThis is more than just a camera - the remote pod includes the accelerometers. It records up to 30fps in 1080p HD in a 140 field-of-view. It must be mounted facing forward, high up, and centered on your windshield. An on-screen guide will help you align it. The camera contains the accelerometers and very powerful processing software integrates the video into Catalyst's coaching and data. Playback is available on the Catalyst screen with speed and lap times already in sync.
Coaching
To unlock all of the coaching features and data you will need to select the Advanced setting. There is also a Basic setting that does not provide as much feedback. During your session, the real-time display is referencing current session data only. However, post-session review can include data from multiple sessions. Catalyst is looking for patterns in your driving to map out where you were fast and opportunities to try a different line, brake less, or carry more speed. The only voice currently available is a Siri-like female voice. Lap time differential is displayed as either red (slower), green (faster), or black (no change). From a student/novice perspective you may want to have an advanced driver/instructor set baselines in your car first. Then overlay that data with your own driving. This way Catalyst can see the full potential and make recommendations. It's important not to "chase" a lap time but to know what is capable and make incremental improvements to get there. Catalyst will never make a recommendation that hasn't been previously successful.
Analysis & Review
Catalyst compiles all of its data to form a True Optimal Lap. This is your best possible lap using all of the data you provided in your sessions. True Optimal Lap is determined not just by lap and sector times but by analyzing your best lines through corners and sectors and using the camera feed to identify track limits. Catalyst retains your track data over a 4-day period so you can pack in a full weekend of driving with progressive coaching and analysis. Post-session data is reviewed through the screen or through the Garmin Connect(TM) smartphone app, including video. Export of data or video files to a laptop is not currently supported nor is it needed. Everything you need is self-contained in the tablet. Catalyst works best when used as a standalone tool to review performance and make adjustments while at the track.

THREE DIFFERENT CONNECTORS, ONE SOLO 2 DL
OBD 2 Cable: This AiM Solo 2 DL system includes a cable to connect to your vehicle's ECU through the OBD 2 (sometimes written OBDII) port to gather vehicle data on top of the Solo 2 DL's internal GPS and accelerometer data.
RS232/CAN Cable: This AiM Solo 2 DL system includes cabling to connect directly (hard-wire) to your vehicle's ECU wiring harness. On many vehicles, more data is available through this wiring harness connection as opposed to the OBD 2 port. Just like the OBD cable, here is a list of supported Engine Control Unit protocols CLICK HERE.
RPM Cable: This AiM Solo 2 DL system includes a digital input and cable allowing the Solo 2 DL to log either a square wave signal (8V to 50V each signal) or pulse signals (150V to 450V ignition coil trigger - primary circuit). This is used on older vehicles that don't have an ECU. If you have an older vehicle, this is your best choice to log RPM data.

As soon as it switches on, the Solo 2 DL identifies its position, recognizes the starting line coordinates of the track, and is ready to start sampling lap times. If your track isn't in the database, no problem: the Solo 2 DL will automatically enter into auto-learning mode, figuring out the characteristics of the track and getting ready for lap-timing.

The GPS09C module from AiM further expands the track mapping abilities of AiM data loggers and dash loggers. In addition, the GPS09C allows lap timing (even split times) without the use of trackside beacons, storing data for as many as 50 race tracks and up to five splits per track. The GPS09C can also calculate and log speed, lateral and longitudinal g-forces, and of course vehicle position.
The AiM GPS09CC is the basis of lap time and split time calculations in all AiM systems. These systems come with start/finish line coordinates for more than four thousand race tracks, so your dash or logger automatically recognizes the track you are racing on and will calculate lap times and split times. If the track you're on is not in the database, your system will recognizes a new track and then will calculate lap times.
High 25 Hz Sampling and Exceptional Accuracy
The GPS09C is the latest version, boasting a quicker 25 Hz sampling rate (up from 10 Hz) and positional accuracy to less than one foot (down from over six feet). It also takes full advantage of Race Studio 3 integration of GPS, video, and data.
Simple to install: Just connect the CAN cable to your dash and mount the AiM GPS09C antenna to your vehicle. The Standard Version is magnetic-backed and can be installed inside the cabin or on the vehicle exterior. The Roof Version is designed to run the cable through an exterior panel for a clean, secure, more permanent installation. The GPS09C will automatically configure itself during start-up!
The AiM GPS09C connects via a 5-pin Binder 712 screw-in connector. Choose a cable length to suit your installation: 0.5m (1.6 ft), 1.3m (4.3 ft) is appropriate for most formula cars and motorcycles; 2.0m (6.6ft) and 4.0m (13.1 ft) are suitable for most sports cars and sedans.

Use SD memory cards1 effortlessly to keep your driver data more organized. This unit allows you to easily swap memory cards in and out to view driver data more efficiently between stints.
Using the AiM Memory Module is really simple: just connect the Module to your device and data will be saved simultaneously both in the data-logger and on the SD card. No configuration is needed. The SD card can be removed and replaced even during pit stops, while the car engine is still on, making it extremely fast to get data during endurance races or long tests, when the time in the paddock is really limited.
When the session is over, all you need to do is move the SD card from the AiM Memory Module to your PC and download the data using RaceStudio 3. The Module features a front LED showing its recording/updating status. The AiM Memory Module can support up to 32GB SD cards.

ADD GPS TO YOUR OLDER SMARTYCAM
The AiM SmartyCam HD and SmartyCam GP-HD (prior to version 2.1) were designed to work with dedicated SmartyCam GPS modules, especially when the camera was used as a stand-alone unit. This older GPS module is no longer available, so the AiM Data Hub allows users needing a GPS module to plug the latest AiM GPS09C directly into their older SmartyCam.
This SmartyCam/GPS09C Data Hub hosts both the GPS09C module and the SmartyCam CAN cable via its two Binder 712 5-pin ports. The Data Hub also provides an external 12VDC cable to be connected to a vehicle electrical system. As a modified version, this SmartyCam/GPS Data Hub will not connect to an existing AiM data-logger.
