Kart Racing Helmet Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Remember that safety is paramount in kart racing, and choosing the right helmet and maintaining it properly is essential for your protection on the track. Consult the professionals at Discovery Parts any time you have specific questions about your racing helmet.
Why do I need a racing helmet?Auto and kart racing helmets are essential for protecting your head in high-speed accidents. They also shield against debris and, in some motorsports, fire—making them a non-negotiable safety requirement.
How do I choose the right size Kart Racing helmet?Use a flexible tape to measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and ears. Compare the measurement to the size chart. For more help, read our blog on how to fit your helmet properly at Discovery Parts.
Can I use a motorcycle helmet for kart racing? No. Motorcycle helmets lack the kart-specific certifications and features like proper ventilation and impact resistance optimized for karting. Always use a helmet rated for motorsport competition.
How often should I replace my kart racing helmet?Replace your helmet every few years depending on usage and the manufacturer's guidance. If it’s been dropped, involved in an impact, or shows signs of wear, replace it immediately.
Are expensive racing helmets safer than budget ones?Yes, typically. While both must meet minimum safety standards, premium helmets offer lighter materials, better fit, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced comfort, all of which impact race performance and fatigue.
How do I maintain and clean my kart racing helmet?Clean the exterior and interior using a helmet-specific care product like the Molecule Helmet Care Kit. Avoid submerging the helmet or using abrasive cleaners. Visors should be cleaned gently to avoid scratching.
Do I need to wear a balaclava under my kart racing helmet? While not required for all karting events, a balaclava enhances comfort, keeps your helmet liner clean, and helps wick sweat. Fire-rated balaclavas are mandatory in sanctioned auto racing and recommended for high-performance karting.
Can I wear glasses with my kart racing helmet?Yes. Wide eye ports, make it compatible with most prescription glasses and racing eyewear. A good fit ensures the glasses remain stable and fog-free.

What's the importance of proper helmet ventilation?Good ventilation helps manage heat and moisture inside the helmet, reducing fatigue and keeping you focused throughout your race.
How do I store my kart racing helmet between races?Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a padded helmet bag like our Discovery Parts Evo Helmet Bag to prevent damage during transport or storage.

How do I know if my helmet is still safe to use?
Helmets should be inspected regularly for signs of wear or damage. If a helmet has been involved in a significant impact or shows signs of degradation, it should be replaced immediately. Additionally, helmets should be replaced every 5 years, even if no damage is visible.

Featherweight Performance, Maximum Protection—Because Speed Doesn’t Like Extra Baggage.
You know that feeling when you’re strapped into your car and adrenaline takes over? The OMP Tecnica Super Light Driver Race Suit is built for those moments—the ones where every millisecond counts, and the last thing you need is a bulky suit slowing you down.
Engineered for high-performance drivers who demand lightweight fireproof protection, this suit is designed with cutting-edge materials that keep you cool, comfortable, and focused on the checkered flag. Whether you're battling for position in an endurance race or carving up a track day, the Tecnica Super Light gives you the confidence to push your limits without compromising safety.
Why You’ll Love It
Ultra-Lightweight Fireproof Protection – Made with advanced 2-layer (2L) inner compound technology, featuring a soft knitted fabric quilted with meta-aramid non-woven fabric. Translation? You’re wrapped in fire-resistant safety without feeling like you’re wearing a medieval suit of armor.
Ergonomic, Race-Ready Fit – Bielastic inserts (fancy talk for ultra-stretchy panels) strategically placed to provide maximum flexibility where you need it most. That means a tailored, second-skin fit that won’t restrict your movements when you’re heel-toeing or sawing at the wheel.
Stay Cool Under Pressure – Breathable inserts under the arms and at the sides let fresh air circulate, preventing that dreaded “hot suit sauna” effect after a few laps.
Smooth Operator – Ultraflat, anti-rubbing seams with fishbone outside top stitching reduce chafing, because the only friction you should be feeling is between your tires and the tarmac.
Race-Ready Style – Contrast color details on the pockets, inner collar, and suit edges ensure you look as fast as you drive. Bonus points if it matches your livery.

HANS SPORT 4 HNR FAQS
I can touch my chin to my chest with the device on. Are my tethers too long?
No. The HANS Device comes properly adjusted for all drivers. Unless you have changed the tether length it is fine and will work in an impact.
When I put the device on, it rubs against my neck. Is that normal?
Yes. The front of the HANS Device is narrower to accommodate arm movement. Padding can be modified or removed - it does not affect the device’s performance.
What type of shoulder belts work best with a HANS Device?
Any SFI or FIA approved harness system works with the HANS Device. Two inch or three inch belts, as well as 5-6 or more multi-point systems are all fine.
Do shoulder belts slip off the HANS Device?
Properly mounted belts do not slip off the device. If shoulder belts will not stay securely on the device, you may not have the belt mounts properly located in your chassis.
I race on a short track at relatively low speeds. Do I need a HANS Device?
Yes. Serious head and neck injuries happen at impact speeds as low as 35mph. On short tracks with tight turns it is easy to be turned almost straight into the wall.
How do I care for my HANS device?
HANS Devices need almost no maintenance but should be kept clean and dry. To protect them, HANS Devices should be stored out of direct sunlight. They may be cleaned with soapy warm water. Ensure rubber top surfaces stay clean and free of wear. Tethers should be replaced after any major impact or every 5 years. Tethers carry dated labels. Check your helmet anchors for tightness occasionally.
What if my HANS Device is in an impact?
HANS Devices should be inspected periodically or after any impacts. Examine your device in bright sunlight and run your finger around the edges. Any sign of de-lamination, cracking or exposed composite material means the device has served its purpose and should be replaced.
How long are the SFI and FIA certifications acceptable?
Different race series may have different rules regarding age of certifications. SFI 38.1 requires recertifying your HANS every 5 years, and FIA 8858 certifications do not expire. Check our website or your race sanctioning body for more information.
