Alright, buckle up helmet enthusiasts and racers! If helmets had a VIP section, the Stilo ST5 FN ABP 8860-2018 Carbon Fiber Helmet would be there, surrounded by an entourage of inferior helmets, taking selfies and signing autographs. Let's dive into why this helmet is the track day diva you didn't know you needed!

For the racers out there who’ve always dreamt of satisfying the sassy FIA 8860-2018 regulations (because safety is the new black), here's your match! The Stilo carbon fiber helmet is for those who toss compromise out the window, just like outdated racing slicks. Whether you’re tearing up local tracks or dreaming of the Monaco Grand Prix, this helmet ensures your noggin stays as protected as a celebrity’s tweets.

Let’s chat about ABP, which doesn’t stand for Awesome Ballistic... Party (although it’s almost as cool). Advanced Ballistic Protection isn’t just any feature; it's like having a personal bodyguard for your precious head. Remember those zylon panels? So last season. The ABP is like upgrading from economy to first-class, bringing military-grade protection, strong enough to laugh in the face of projectiles coming at it like paparazzi – 250 km/h to be precise.

Wanna know another cool tidbit? This sexy piece of headgear is among the lightest carbon fiber racing helmets out there. Though it may play hard-to-get without those side ports of its sibling, the ST5 GT, it’s still ready for that electronic jam, a blast of top air, and the suave helmet eject system. All this with a sleekness that would make James Bond jealous; nothing sticking out, drooping down, or crashing your style.

Juicy deets time! 📝

Click that add to cart button, make the purchase, and let's elevate that racing game of yours. After all, why just race when you can do it with style and unparalleled protection?

The Stilo ST5 FN ABP 8860-2018 carbon helmet was designed for professional racers needing to satisfy the latest FIA 8860-2018 regulation. It also the helmet of choice for drivers who won't compromise their safety, no matter where they are racing. This certification provides an unparalleled level of puncture protection as well as impact resistance.

ABP is an acronym for Advanced Ballistic Protection. The ABP replaces the previous zylon panel required by FIA in the previous generation (FIA 8860-2010) helmets, integrating a stronger protection into the front of the helmet shell. A brand new test was specifically introduced to test this area, based on military ballistic specifications with a projectile shot at 250 km/h. The Stilo ST5 FN ABP is the first helmet to be certified to this new standard, offering a higher safety degree while maintaining dimensions and weight!

The Stilo ST5 FN ABP 8860-2018 is among the lightest carbon fiber racing helmets on the market. While it lacks the side ports of the Stilo Helmets ST5 GT 8860-2018 Carbon Helmet, it can still be outfitted with electronics, top forced air and a helmet eject system. Thanks to the innovative design incorporating mounting and routing for these options, integration is sleek and seamless with nothing protruding from the helmet, hanging down or otherwise getting in the way. When not in use, you don't even know they're there.

Looking for increased visibility? The Stilo ST5 FN 8860-2018 has a taller and lower-placed eyeport, giving you better visibility while not compromising your safety. Every Stilo visor has a center pinch-clip to make opening and closing easy, even while wearing nomex racing gloves.

Sizing note: We have found that customers who typically wear a size 59 helmet are more comfortable in size 60, which uses the large shell. Please order accordingly.

Stilo ST5 FN ABP 8860-2018 Carbon Fiber Helmet Size chart Image

An effective helmet is one that fits properly. To get the most accurate measurement please have an assistant use a fabric measuring tape or a piece of string to measure the circumference of your head starting at a point approximately one inch above your eyebrows in front, around a point in the back of your head that results in the largest possible measurement, and finally wrapping back to the front.  It is a good idea to take several measurements to make sure you have the largest one.

STILO ST5 FN ABP 8860-2018 CARBON FIBER HELMET FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ):

Remember that safety is paramount in auto racing, and choosing the right helmet and maintaining it properly is essential for your protection on the track. Always consult with the professionals at Discovery Parts and refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific questions about your racing helmet.

  1. Why do I need a racing helmet?

Auto racing helmets are designed to protect drivers from head injuries and fire during high-speed races and crashes. They are a crucial safety component in motorsports.
  2. How do I choose the right size helmet? You should measure your head's circumference using a flexible tape measure, then refer to the manufacturer's sizing chart to select the appropriate size helmet. Please review our blog posting on how to properly fit your new auto racing helmet from Discovery Parts.
  3. What safety standards should I look for in a racing helmet? Look for helmets that meet safety standards like Snell and FIA depending on your racing discipline. These standards ensure the helmet's safety and quality. DOT helmets are designed for street use and not for racing and track use.
  4. What's the difference between full-face and open-face, and helmets? Full-face helmets provide the most protection with a complete face shield, while open-face helmets cover the top and sides of the head.
  5. Can I use a motorcycle helmet for auto racing? No, motorcycle helmets do not provide the same level of protection as auto racing helmets, as they are designed for different purposes. It's recommended to use a helmet specifically designed for auto racing which includes fire protection in addition to impact protection.
  6. How often should I replace my auto racing helmet? Auto racing helmets should be replaced every 5-10 years, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations and usage. If the helmet is involved in a crash, it should be replaced immediately.
  7. Are expensive racing helmets safer than budget ones? Safety standards dictate the minimum safety requirements, so even budget-friendly helmets can offer protection. However it’s important to consider how lower-priced helmets are meeting the required testing standards. More expensive helmets are lighter, smaller, are constructed of superior materials, and often come with additional features then less expensive helmets.
  8. How do I maintain and clean my racing helmet? Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance. You should clean the exterior, interior and shield with the Molecule Helmet Care Kit.
  9. Do I need to wear a balaclava under my racing helmet? Balaclavas are typically not required for Driver's Education events, however they make wearing a helmet much, much more comfortable. Balaclavas will provide fire protection (if fire rated), help keep your helmet lining clean and order free by absorbing the majority of sweat while using it, and additionally balaclavas make putting your helmet on and taking it off by protecting your ears and keeping from from folding over when you helmet is worn. Discovery Parts recommends balaclavas from Alpinestars, OMP, Sabelt, Sparco, and Stand21. If you are entering sanctioned auto racing events, balaclavas will be required for fire protection.
  10. Is the SNELL SA Rating important? The Snell SA2020 certification is a safety standard established by the Snell Memorial Foundation for auto racing helmets. It sets the criteria and requirements that helmets must meet to be considered safe and suitable for use in motorsport events. Snell SA2020 certification is highly regarded in the motorsports industry and is often required or recommended by racing organizations and events. It signifies that a helmet has passed rigorous testing to provide maximum safety for drivers in various motorsport disciplines, including road racing, NASCAR, Formula 1, drag racing, and more. It's essential for drivers to check the specific safety standards required by the racing organizations they participate in to ensure compliance.
  11. Is the FIA helmet certification important? Yes, FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) certification is crucial for auto racing helmets, especially in the context of international motorsport events and many national and regional racing series in the USA. The FIA 8859-2015 standard is commonly associated with racing helmets used in various motorsport disciplines. Helmets certified to FIA 8859-2015 met the safety requirements set by the FIA and were widely accepted in many racing series
  12. Which helmet certification is the most stringent and the hardest to meet? The FIA 8860-2018 certification is considered the most stringent and advanced helmet certifications available for auto racing helmets, and it is often associated with top-tier motorsport categories like Formula 1. It's important to note that the FIA 8860-2018 helmets offer a high level of protection and their use is mandatory in many racing series. Drivers should always check the regulations of the racing series they intend to participate in to ensure compliance with helmet certification standards.
  13. Can I wear glasses with my helmet? Most helmets have provisions for wearing glasses or goggles, but check the design to be sure. Most manufacturers feature helmet models with wider eye ports to better accommodate eye glasses.
  14. Are carbon fiber helmets better? Carbon fiber helmets are lightweight and strong, a top choice for racers. But remember, certification matters most.
  15. Can I use a used helmet for racing? It's best to buy a new helmet. Used helmets may have unseen damage or be out of date on safety standards.
  16. Can I buy replacement parts for my helmet, like visors or padding? Many manufacturers offer replacement parts, including visors and padding, to extend your helmet's lifespan.
  17. How can I prevent helmet fogging during races? Anti-fog sprays and inserts are available to help keep your visor clear during races.
  18. What's the importance of proper helmet ventilation? Proper ventilation helps keep you cool and comfortable during races, reducing the risk of heat exhaustion.
  19. How do I store my helmet between races? Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and chemicals in a bag designed to store your auto racing helmet, like the Discovery Parts Evo Helmet Bag.
  20. Where can I buy a certified racing helmet? You should only buy from a professional authorized dealer who has sold thousands of helmets. You can find all the best brands at Discovery Parts online at www.discoveryparts.com or visit our retail store at Atlanta Motorsports park or at one of the hundreds of race and track day events we attend and support.

Missing the aero

Don’t make the same assumption I did— the clear aero pieces in the photos are NOT included with the ST5 FN 8860 ABP. If you need them (they are mandatory for my usage) you will need to order them and install yourself. Not hard to do, but extra cost and complexity.

Ultra-Lightweight, Ultra-Safe

The lightweight nature of the Stilo ST5 FN ABP does not compromise its safety. On the track, performance is enhanced by not having the extra weight on your shoulders. The quality is impressive, with a sturdy shell and comfortable lining. It is as user-friendly as it is light, with a straightforward strap and release system. Compared to similar helmets, it provides a balance of lightweight and safety that’s hard to beat. The price is justified for what you get. A recommendation would be to offer more graphic designs for racers who want to stand out.

Peak Performance Racer's Dream

The Stilo ST5 FN ABP helmet is a marvel of racing technology. Performance-wise, it offers excellent aerodynamics and a field of vision that is unmatched. The quality of the carbon fiber shell inspires confidence in its durability and safety. In terms of ease of use, the helmet is user-friendly with an adjustable visor and comfortable interior padding. Compared to other helmets, the lightweight design stands out without compromising on safety. Despite the high price tag, its professional-grade features make it a worthwhile investment. Recommended for serious racers who need top-of-the-line gear. An improvement could be a larger selection of visor tints.

The Pinnacle of Helmet Innovation

The performance in safety and comfort is unmatched, and the quality of materials is apparent. It’s user-friendly, with a secure locking system that’s easy to manage. This helmet outperforms many others on the market and the price, while high, matches the level of protection provided. I recommend this to professionals who need the best in headgear technology. Improvement could be made by including built-in electronics for communication.

Streamlined Design Meets Racing Needs

The aerodynamic design of the Stilo ST5 FN ABP improves performance by reducing drag. The quality of this helmet, from the shell to the liner, is superb. Its ease of use is appreciated, with clear instructions and simple adjustments. It stands out from similar products with its sleek design and attention to detail. The price is on the higher end, but for a helmet that can enhance racing performance, it’s a fair trade. Would recommend.
