It's a good idea to take a few measurements and order your helmet based on the largest. Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ): Remember that safety is paramount in auto racing, and choosing the right helmet and maintaining it properly is essential for your protection on the track. Always consult with the professionals at Discovery Parts and refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for specific questions about your racing helmet. Why do I need a racing helmet? Auto racing helmets are designed to protect drivers from head injuries and fire during high-speed races and crashes. They are a crucial safety component in motorsports. How do I choose the right size helmet? You should measure your head's circumference using a flexible tape measure, then refer to the manufacturer's sizing chart to select the appropriate size helmet. Please review our blog posting on how to properly fit your new auto racing helmet from Discovery Parts. What safety standards should I look for in a racing helmet? Look for helmets that meet safety standards like Snell and FIA depending on your racing discipline. These standards ensure the helmet's safety and quality. DOT helmets are designed for street use and not for racing and track use. What's the difference between full-face and open-face, and helmets? Full-face helmets provide the most protection with a complete face shield, while open-face helmets cover the top and sides of the head. Can I use a motorcycle helmet for auto racing? No, motorcycle helmets do not provide the same level of protection as auto racing helmets, as they are designed for different purposes. It's recommended to use a helmet specifically designed for auto racing which includes fire protection in addition to impact protection. How often should I replace my Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite auto racing helmet? Auto racing helmets should be replaced every 5-10 years, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations and usage. If the helmet is involved in a crash, it should be replaced immediately. Are expensive racing helmets safer than budget ones? Safety standards dictate the minimum safety requirements, so even budget-friendly helmets can offer protection. However it’s important to consider how lower-priced helmets are meeting the required testing standards. More expensive helmets are lighter, smaller, are constructed of superior materials, and often come with additional features then less expensive helmets. How do I maintain and clean my Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite racing helmet? Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance. You should clean the exterior, interior and shield with the Molecule Helmet Care Kit. Do I need to wear a balaclava under my Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite racing helmet? Balaclavas are typically not required for Driver's Education events, however they make wearing a helmet much, much more comfortable. Balaclavas will provide fire protection (if fire rated), help keep your helmet lining clean and order free by absorbing the majority of sweat while using it, and additionally balaclavas make putting your helmet on and taking it off by protecting your ears and keeping from from folding over when you helmet is worn. Discovery Parts recommends balaclavas from Alpinestars, OMP, Sabelt, Sparco, and Stand21. If you are entering sanctioned auto racing events, balaclavas will be required for fire protection. Is the SNELL SA Rating important? The Snell SA2020 certification is a safety standard established by the Snell Memorial Foundation for auto racing helmets. It sets the criteria and requirements that helmets must meet to be considered safe and suitable for use in motorsport events. Snell SA2020 certification is highly regarded in the motorsports industry and is often required or recommended by racing organizations and events. It signifies that a helmet has passed rigorous testing to provide maximum safety for drivers in various motorsport disciplines, including road racing, NASCAR, Formula 1, drag racing, and more. It's essential for drivers to check the specific safety standards required by the racing organizations they participate in to ensure compliance. Is the FIA helmet certification important? Yes, FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) certification is crucial for auto racing helmets, especially in the context of international motorsport events and many national and regional racing series in the USA. The FIA 8859-2015 standard is commonly associated with racing helmets used in various motorsport disciplines. Helmets certified to FIA 8859-2015 met the safety requirements set by the FIA and were widely accepted in many racing series Which helmet certification is the most stringent and the hardest to meet? The FIA 8860-2018 certification is considered the most stringent and advanced helmet certifications available for auto racing helmets, and it is often associated with top-tier motorsport categories like Formula 1. It's important to note that the FIA 8860-2018 helmets offer a high level of protection and their use is mandatory in many racing series. Drivers should always check the regulations of the racing series they intend to participate in to ensure compliance with helmet certification standards. Can I wear glasses with my Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite helmet? Most helmets have provisions for wearing glasses or goggles, but check the design to be sure. Most manufacturers feature helmet models with wider eye ports to better accommodate eye glasses. Are carbon fiber helmets better? Carbon fiber helmets are lightweight and strong, a top choice for racers. But remember, certification matters most. Can I use a used helmet for racing? It's best to buy a new helmet. Used helmets may have unseen damage or be out of date on safety standards. Can I buy replacement parts for my Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite helmet, like visors or padding? Many manufacturers offer replacement parts, including visors and padding, to extend your helmet's lifespan. How can I prevent helmet fogging during races? Anti-fog sprays and inserts are available to help keep your visor clear during races. What's the importance of proper helmet ventilation? Proper ventilation helps keep you cool and comfortable during races, reducing the risk of heat exhaustion. How do I store my Stilo ST5.1 GT Composite helmet between races? Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and chemicals in a bag designed to store your auto racing helmet, like the Discovery Parts Evo Helmet Bag. Where can I buy a certified racing helmet? You should only buy from a professional authorized dealer who has sold thousands of helmets. You can find all the best brands at Discovery Parts online at www.discoveryparts.com or visit our retail store at Atlanta Motorsports park or at one of the hundreds of race and track day events we attend and support. Carbotech makes many different compounds for your NB 1.8L Miata and for the track, the most popular set-up is XP10 Front and XP8 rear. This seems to balance out the Hoosier Spec tire to the suspension nicely. If you run a stickier tire, you want to start with XP10/XP8 and maybe go to XP12 after you determine you can handle the increased torque without getting into the ABS. How To Properly Bed In Carbotech Racing Brake Pads Manufacturer: Carbotech Manufacturer Part Number: CT635 [img-12122-left-large_default] BRAKE COMPOUNDS Carbotechâ 1521â The Carbotechâ 1521â is our high performance street compound. The 1521â compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521â is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotechâ 1521â operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800 F (426 C+). 1521â is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotechâ 1521â is NOT recommended for ANY track use. Carbotechâ AX6â The AX6â is specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range of 50 F to 1000 F + (10 C to 537 C+). The advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial bite, high coefficient of friction at lower temperatures along with very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Many drivers use the AX6â for street driving as well, even though Carbotechâ doesn't recommend street driving with AX6â due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. AX6â is NOT recommended as a race compound in most applications. Carbotechâ XP8â A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range of 200 F-1250 F+ (93 C to 676 C+). Carbotechâ XP8â is the first of our racing compounds. Good initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance and very rotor friendly. Perfect for track day use with any tire and can still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotechâ does NOT recommended XP8â as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotechâ XP8â is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers. Carbotechâ XP10â When Carbotechâ unleashed the XP10â to the general public it immediately gathered multiple regional, divisional, and national championships. The XP10â has a very strong initial bite with a coefficient of friction and rotor friendliness unmatched in the industry. Fade resistance is in excess of 1475 F (801 C). XP10â still maintains the highly praised release, excellent modulation and rotor friendliness that have made all Carbotechâ compounds so successful. Carbotechâ XP10â is not recommended as a daily-driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotechâ XP12â Another highly successful XPâ series compound with an excellent initial bite, torque and fade resistance over and above the XP10â compound. XP12â has temperature range of 250 F to 1850 F+ (121 C to 1010 C+). The XP12â has that excellent Carbotechâ release and modulation that has made all other Carbotechâ compounds so successful. The XP12â is more rotor aggressive than XP10â , but compared to the competition the XP12â is still very rotor friendly. XP12â is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotechâ XP20â The latest iteration of the highly successful XPâ series of compounds. XP20â is a step up from the highly successful XP16â compound. With an extremely aggressive initial bite, linear torque curve and excellent fade resistance the XP20â is another major step in progression of the highly successful XPâ series line of compounds from Carbotechâ . XP20â has a temperature range of 275 F to 2000 F+ (135 C to 1093 C+). Carbotechâ XP20â maintains our tradition of having the outstanding release and modulation that has made all other Carbotechâ compounds so successful. Carbotechâ XP20â is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotechâ XP24â XP24â is the pinnacle compound of the extremely successful XPâ Series of compounds engineered by Carbotechâ . This compound is based on the same fundamentals that exist in all other Carbotechâ formulations. XP24â has even more initial bite, more overall bite, and more torque along with the most linear torque curve we have ever offered. The thermal characteristics are of the highest Carbotechâ offers along with one of the highest coefficient of friction ratings offered by anyone in the braking industry. This compound is the longest wearing compound Carbotechâ offers as it was originally engineered for endurance applications at the highest pro racing levels. This revolutionary new compound has been extremely successful with open wheel, closed wheel, sprint and endurance applications. XP24â has a temperature range of 400 F to 2000 F+ (204 C to 1093 C+). Carbotechâ XP24â is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise along with the necessary heat required to work properly. Carbotechâ RP2â The RP2â compound was engineered for endurance racing based on our highly successful XPâ Series formulations. RP2â has strong initial bite, a little less modulation than our XP12â , but still maintains the rotor friendliness of our XPâ series compounds. RP2â has great fade resistance with a temperature range of 250 F to 1450 F+ (121 C to 787 C). RP2â is as rotor friendly as our XPâ series compounds. Carbotechâ RP2â is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotechâ 913 Kelated Metallicâ A D.O.T.-approved high-performance compound for brake shoes on high performance street vehicles and race cars. Carbotechâ Kelated Metallic (CKM) achieves a very high coefficient of friction (approx. 0.48 to 0.50) by taking advantage of a chemical reaction within the friction mass, which creates a tri-alloy metallic film at the liner/drum interface when subjected to heat and pressure. Designed to overcome the shortcomings of other liner materials, CKM is a very versatile and provides excellent braking performance in a wide variety of applications. Excellent wear characteristics and a very high resistance to lock-up under hard braking. Optimal recommended operating temperature range is from ambient to 750 F. [img-12122-left-large_default]
Simpson Hybrid S 3-Point FIA Head and Neck Restraint
Simpson Simpson Hybrid S 3-Point FIA Head and Neck Restraint $1,152.95
Simpson Hybrid S 3-Point Head and Neck Restraint The Hybrid S Head Restraint is FIA and SFI approved (when worn with a multi-point harness system) and is tested and shown to be compatible with 3-point harnesses used by Car Club enthusiasts and High Performance Driving Experiences. This allows Driving Instructors, Auto Manufacturing Test Engineers, and others in cars with 3-point harnesses to have added protection. We are pleased to offer this great option for increased protection to this sector of the market. Bear in mind, however, that on a racetrack the best protection we believe is a Full-Containment Cockpit System that includes a full containment seat, Snell SA2015 or FIA 8860 rated helmet, FIA or SFI approved head restraint, and 6- or 7-point racing harness system. SIMPSON HYBRID S 3-POINT HNR OPTIONS Select your size based on the size chart DiscoveryParts only carries this device with standard HANS post anchor clips as they're lightweight and easy to attach/detach SIMPSON HYBRID S 3-POINT HNR FEATURES FIA and SFI Approved with 5-, 6- and 7-point harness systems FMVSS Tested for use with 3-point OEM belt system High quality carbon fiber construction Low profile, no high back to hook on the roll bars, etc. in emergency exit Multiple load paths to dissipate head loads Buckle attachment in front, no bulky straps underneath SIMPSON HYBRID S 3-POINT HNR INSTALLATION To use a Hybrid S with a 3-point seat belt system, the SAS (Seatbelt Anchoring System) is not used. (The SAS strap anchor loops hook into the buckle of a 5-, 6- or 7-point racing harness.) Have the wearer put on the Hybrid S and get into the driver's seat. Follow the instructions on fitting the device to the wearer. Engage the 3-point seat belt and sit in the normal driving position. Have a helper apply gentle pressure to the top of the device, keeping the device stable during tether adjustment. The device should be in a comfortable position behind the driver back, against the seat cushion. With the helper holding the device and the driver looking straight forward, hold the triangulated tether up to the anchors on the driver helmet. Adjust the side tethers so that the end fitting can be easily inserted into the helmet anchor without pulling down on the helmet. A comfortable adjustment on the side tether is to have about 1" of slack in the tethers. With the helper still holding the device down and the driver looking straight ahead, adjust the rear tethers so that there is 1"to 1.5" of slack. Test the amount of head movement by moving the head straight forward. The driver should have 1" to 2" of forward head movement before the slack is taken out of the tether. Remember when checking this not to rotate the head down; translate it straight forward. This should allow for plenty of head movement on track. AIRBAG USE WITH SIMPSON HYBRID S 3-POINT HNR No one should unhook or disable the airbag system installed by the auto manufacturer or their authorized installer. Outside experts in Detroit have confirmed this and require their test engineers to use the Hybrid S in conjunction with the airbag in a 3-point system. Simpson agrees that the airbag and Hybrid S work together to increase protection in frontal crashes.
