Limited to 100 entries. This event will sell out, so sign up early to be sure you have a spot!
On Friday, October 25, 2024, Atlanta Motorsports Park and Discovery Parts are offering an open-lapping track day for advanced drivers. The pits and full main track at AMP will be open for advanced drivers only. There will not be any run groups, so you can run laps to your heart's content.
This open track day is on the Friday before the Champ Car Race, which takes place on Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27. The AMP/Discovery Parts open lapping day is the perfect opportunity for last-minute testing, car shake-down, AMP track orientation/familiarization, etc.
Atlanta Motorsports Park Open Track Day Details
You do not need to race in the Champ Car event in order to drive during the open-lapping track day on October 25. However, this open track day is for drivers with at least four (4) weekends of race track driving experience. If, for example, you're an HPDE instructor, usually juggling new drivers and rarely getting to drive your own car, this is the day you have been waiting for!
This event is for experienced and advanced drivers only. No drivers with fewer than four (4) weekend track events under your belt will be allowed to drive on track.
AMP Open-Lapping Track Day Pricing
Early sign-up pricing is in effect for anyone signing up from now through Sept 18!
Full Day: $275 (9:00am to 5:00pm, w/ lunch 1:00-2:00pm)
Afternoon Only: $175 (2:00pm to 5:00pm)
Happy Hour: $155 (4:00pm to 5:00pm)
Pricing is per vehicle. So you can, for example, have multiple drivers using the same vehicle during different on-track sessions for the price of one $275 Full Day entry fee. Each participating driver must be an experienced, advanced driver and must be wearing an arm band before entering the track.
AMP/Discovery Parts On Track Rules
Hot pits are open under green flag conditions.
Passing is allowed only after receiving a point-by and only on straights. No passing is allowed (point-by or otherwise) while cornering or in braking zones.
Do not touch or cross the blend line. (Not kidding; don't do it.)
Other rules will be discussed at the driver's meeting Friday morning.
Rule Violations
If you get black-flagged, report as soon as possible to the black flag station for consultation and/or further instructions.
First Instance: Typically (but not always) the driver will receive a warning.
Second Instance: Park that vehicle for the remainder of the day. That means none of the drivers of that vehicle can go on track. This will make you extremely unpopular. Don't do it.
Required Driver Attire
Helmet: Snell SA2015 or SA2020; FIA 8859-2015, FIA 8860 (FIA build date within 10 years). No motorcycle helmets.
Pants: Full-length cotton or other natural material (no technical materials such as UnderArmour).
Shirt: Short- or long-sleeved cotton or other natural material (no technical materials such as UnderArmour).
Shoes: Closed-toed, securely tied/fastened.
Participant Age Requirements
To drive on the AMP race track, you must be at least 18 years old at the beginning of this event, with one exception: a person at least 16 years old, holding a current valid Competition License issued by NASA, PCA, BMWCCA, SCCA or HSR, will be permitted to drive on track. This person must present his/her original license (not a copy or a photo) at registration.

Right-Seat Passengers:
Passengers may be allowed on a case-by-case basis as determined by the event crew, typically after observing a driver's morning lapping. Right-seat passengers must have completed the Motorsports Safety Foundation Level 2 or higher certification class and present their original card (not a copy or a photo) at registration.

The event will take place rain or shine and has limited spots. No transfers are allowed and no refunds will be given for no-shows, cancelations, last-minute broken race cars, etc.
No discounts/discount codes allowed for this event.
Lastly, if you contact us with a question that is already answered above, a three-second penalty will be added to your lap time and the penalty will be noted on all social media. For example, if you ask eight already-answered questions, 24 seconds will be added and it will appear as though you were lapping on your bicycle.

Carbotech 1521
The Carbotech 1521 is our high performance street compound. The 1521 compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521 is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotech 1521 operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800º F (426º C+). 1521 is suitable for all street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotech 1521 is not recommended for track use.
Carbotech AX6
The AX6 is specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range of 50º F to 1000º F + (10º C to 537º C+). The advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial bite, high coefficient of friction at lower temperatures along with very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Many drivers use the AX6 for street driving as well, even though Carbotech doesn't recommend street driving with AX6 due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. AX6 is not recommended as a race compound in most applications.
Carbotech XP8
A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range of 200º F to 1250º F+ (93º C to 676º C+). Carbotech XP8 is the first of our racing compounds. Good initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance and very rotor friendly. Perfect for track day use with any tire and can still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotech does not recommended XP8 as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotech XP8 is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.

The XP10 has a very strong initial bite with a coefficient of friction and rotor friendliness unmatched in the industry. Fade resistance is in excess of 1475º F (801º C). XP10 still maintains the highly praised release, excellent modulation and rotor friendliness that have made all Carbotech compounds so successful. Carbotech XP10 is not recommended as a daily-driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.
Carbotech XP12
Another highly successful XP series compound with an excellent initial bite, torque and fade resistance over and above the XP10 compound. XP12 has temperature range of 250º F to 1850º F+ (121º C to 1010º C+). The XP12 has that excellent Carbotech release and modulation that has made all other Carbotech compounds so successful. The XP12 is more rotor aggressive than XP10, but compared to the competition the XP12 is still very rotor friendly. XP12 is not recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.
Carbotech XP20
The latest iteration of the highly successful XP series of compounds. XP20 is a step up from the highly successful XP16 compound. With an extremely aggressive initial bite, linear torque curve and excellent fade resistance the XP20 is another major step in progression of the highly successful XP series line of compounds from Carbotech. XP20 has a temperature range of 275º F to 2000º F+ (135º C to 1093º C+).
Carbotech XP20 maintains their tradition of having the outstanding release and modulation that has made all other Carbotech compounds so successful. Carbotech XP20 is not recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.
Carbotech XP24
XP24 is the pinnacle compound of the extremely successful XP Series of compounds engineered by Carbotech . This compound is based on the same fundamentals that exist in all other Carbotech formulations. XP24 has even more initial bite, more overall bite, and more torque along with the most linear torque curve Carbotech has ever offered.
The thermal characteristics are the highest Carbotech offers, along with one of the highest coefficient of friction ratings offered by anyone in the braking industry. This compound is the longest wearing compound Carbotech offers as it was originally engineered for endurance applications at the highest pro racing levels.
This revolutionary new compound has been extremely successful with open wheel, closed wheel, sprint and endurance applications. XP24 has a temperature range of 400º F to 2000º F+ (204º C to 1093º C+). Carbotech XP24 is not recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise along with the necessary heat required to work properly.

The RP2 compound was engineered for endurance racing based on our highly successful XP Series formulations. Carbotechâ 913 Kelated Metallicâ
A D.O.T.-approved high-performance compound for brake shoes on high performance street vehicles and race cars. Carbotechâ Kelated Metallic (CKM) achieves a very high coefficient of friction (approx. 0.48 to 0.50) by taking advantage of a chemical reaction within the friction mass, which creates a tri-alloy metallic film at the liner/drum interface when subjected to heat and pressure. Designed to overcome the shortcomings of other liner materials, CKM is a very versatile and provides excellent braking performance in a wide variety of applications. Excellent wear characteristics and a very high resistance to lock-up under hard braking. Optimal recommended operating temperature range is from ambient to 750 F.

Automatic On/Off
AiM SmartyCam 3 Sport can be switched on/off automatically by the logger it is connected to: simply decide after what period of non-activity the camera will have to switch-off. Both operations can also be carried out using the keyboard, if you prefer.
Recording can also be started/stopped automatically or via keyboard: the camera will start recording when the speed or RPM threshold is exceeded. You simply decide how long after dropping below the selected threshold the video will automatically stop.
Resists Straight Cut Dog Box/Solid Motor Mounts/Engine Harmonics
Engine rumble causes vibrations, which are not a good thing for video recording. Real Time Data Overlay
With no driver input, the AiM SmartyCam 3 Sport will automatically overlay on your videos all the data you need: speed, RPM, lap number, gear shifts and much more. Simply choose the data and the graphic layout you prefer in the huge selection of overlays available.
What Kind of Data?
AiM SmartyCam 3 Sport Sport overlays data from different sources on the videos themselves. From GPS, you get track map and vehicle position as well as speed, lap- and split-times. From your AiM data-logger, add RPM, throttle, engaged gear, acceleration, temperatures, pressures and values from any additional sensors. All this info can be overlayed on your full HD videos.
SmartyManager 3 Software
With SmartyManager 3, AiM's dedicated SmartyCam 3 Sport software, you can add graphics like your logo and a track map to videos. A wide range of included graphic objects allows you to choose from pre-determined sets within your layout or choose single objects from different sets. NACA ducts bring air into a vehicle with a minimal increase in external drag. The purpose of a NACA duct is to increase the flow rate of air while not disturbing boundary layer airflow over your vehicle's exterior. When the cross-sectional flow area of the duct is increased, you decrease the static pressure and make the duct into a vacuum cleaner (without the drag effects of a standard scoop). The reason why the duct is narrow, then suddenly widens in a graceful arc is to increase the cross-sectional area slowly so that airflow doesn t separate and cause turbulence and drag.
