Bell Kart Racing Helmet – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Remember that safety is paramount in kart racing, and choosing the right helmet and maintaining it properly is essential for your protection on the track. Consult the professionals at any time you have specific questions about your racing helmet.
What is the best helmet for kart racing? The Bell KC7 CMR is widely considered one of the best karting helmets, offering a carbon shell, Snell K2020 certification, and premium features for serious kart racers.
Why do I need a racing helmet?Auto and kart racing helmets are essential for protecting your head in high-speed accidents. They also shield against debris and, in some motorsports, fire—making them a non-negotiable safety requirement.
How do I choose the right size kart racing helmet?Use a flexible tape to measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and ears. Compare the measurement to Bell’s sizing chart. For more help, read our blog on how to fit your helmet properly at .
What safety standards should I look for in a kart racing helmet?Look for the Snell K2020 certification for adult karting or the Snell-FIA CMR-2016 certification for youth karting (15 and under). It ensures your helmet meets rigorous standards for impact protection. Unlike DOT (for street use), these standards are created specifically for karting.
Can I use a motorcycle helmet for kart racing? No. Motorcycle helmets lack the kart-specific certifications and features like proper ventilation and impact resistance optimized for karting. Always use a helmet rated for motorsport competition.
How often should I replace my kart racing helmet?Replace your helmet every five years depending on usage and the manufacturer's guidance. If it’s been dropped, involved in an impact, or shows signs of wear, replace it immediately.
Are expensive racing helmets safer than budget ones?Yes, typically. While both must meet minimum safety standards, premium helmets offer lighter materials, better fit, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced comfort, all of which impact race performance and fatigue.
How do I maintain and clean my kart racing helmet?Clean the exterior and interior using a helmet-specific care product like the Molecule Helmet Care Kit. Avoid submerging the helmet or using abrasive cleaners. Visors should be cleaned gently to avoid scratching.
Do I need to wear a balaclava under my kart racing helmet? While not required for all karting events, a balaclava enhances comfort, keeps your helmet liner clean, and helps wick sweat. Fire-rated balaclavas are mandatory in sanctioned auto racing and recommended for high-performance karting.
Is the Snell-FIA CMR-2016 rating important?Yes. The Snell-FIA-CMR-2016 certification is the most widely accepted youth kart helmet standard, required by many racing series to ensure safety and performance.
Can I wear glasses with my kart racing helmet?Yes. Wide eye ports make it compatible with most prescription glasses and racing eyewear. A good fit ensures the glasses remain stable and fog-free.
Can I use a used helmet for racing? It’s not recommended. Damage or degradation may not be visible, and older helmets might not meet current safety standards. Always buy new from an authorized dealer like .
How can I prevent helmet fogging during races?Use a visor with built-in anti-fog technology like Bell’s DSAF system, or apply an anti-fog spray or insert. Keeping your helmet well-ventilated also helps.
What's the importance of proper helmet ventilation?Good ventilation helps manage heat and moisture inside the helmet, reducing fatigue and keeping you focused throughout your race.
How do I store my kart racing helmet between races?Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a padded helmet bag like our Evo Helmet Bag to prevent damage during transport or storage.
What is the difference between Snell K2020 and Snell-FIA CMR-2016 certifications?Snell K2020 is designed for adult karting helmets, focusing on impact protection. CMR-2016 is tailored for drivers under 15, offering a lighter helmet to reduce neck strain while maintaining safety standards.
Are tear-off visors necessary for kart racing?Tear-off visors are beneficial in maintaining clear vision during races by allowing drivers to remove a dirty visor layer quickly. They are especially useful in outdoor karting where debris and dirt are common.
How do I know if my helmet is still safe to use?Helmets should be inspected regularly for signs of wear or damage. If a helmet has been involved in a significant impact or shows signs of degradation, it should be replaced immediately. Additionally, helmets should be replaced every 5 years, even if no damage is visible.
Can I customize my kart racing helmet?Yes, many manufacturers offer customization options for fit and aesthetics. However, any modifications should not compromise the helmet's structural integrity or safety certifications.
Where can I buy a certified racing helmet?Buy from trusted experts like Competition Karting, online or in-person at any of our retail locations around the USA. We carry all major brands, including Arai, Bell, Stilo, and Schuberth, and support hundreds of racing events across the country.

AiM Sports MyChron Expansion Channel Multiplier - Replaced by ACC3
$300.00
AiM Sports MyChron Expansion Channel Multiplier - Discontinued
Replaced by ACC3 which can be found here
The AiM MyChron Expansion is an add-on for the MyChron4 or MyChron5 Kart Racing Data Logger Dash. It plugs into the CAN expansion port on your MyChron dash to expand its capabilities. The Expansion has a single CAN expansion port plus four additional sensor inputs. All four inputs can accept common karting sensors (brake/throttle pedal position, temperature, steering angle, etc.). One of the four inputs can accept a speed sensor instead. Requires an external 12-volt power source such as your kart's battery.
The MyChron Expansion channel multiplier improves MyChron5 and MyChron5 2T (and also MyChron4 and MyChron4 2T) performance, thanks to four additional channels and a further CAN bus connector. Through this last connector, the systems can be connected to LCU-One Lambda controller and SmartyCam HD (and to GPS and Data key for MyChron4 systems).
Thanks to its specific wirings, MyChron Expansion powers the systems and their peripherals with an external battery, avoiding internal battery consumption.
All channels are easily configurable as analog through the system menu to sample data coming from:
Exhaust gas valve position sensor (very important to understand at which RPM value the exhaust port opens)
Wheel speed sensor: the first input on the left can be configured also as digital input
No contact brake pedal position sensor
No contact throttle pedal position sensor
Brake pressure sensor
Water temperature or cylinder head temperature (PT100 thermo-resistor only)
Steering angle potentiometer (to highlight over/under steering situations)
Brake pedal potentiometer
Throttle pedal potentiometer
MyChron Expansion is a complete, value-for-money instrument for professional kart analysis. Call us with any questions you have about the MyChron Expansion from AiM Sports!

CMS Performance Bolt-In Roll Bar For Porsche 981 & 718 Cayman

HANDS DOWN THE BEST ROLL BAR FOR YOUR CAYMAN
The CMS Performance Roll Bar is the strongest, safest, and most beautifully constructed roll bar on the market for your Cayman. In designing our roll bar, safety and structural rigidity were our primary goals. That's why we use 1.75 x .095 Docol R8 Advanced High-Strength Steel tubing, much stronger than the smaller 4130 CrMo tubing others use.
The harness cross-bar is designed to put your harness shoulder straps at the proper angle (0 to -20 ) and distance to the driver, regardless of your seat position. Yet the CMS roll bar requires no cutting through the carpeted hump in the middle of your interior (replacing this carpet is expensive if you ever want to return your car to stock). This also provides an ideal mount for a SmartyCam video camera.
AMERICAN-MADE QUALITY, STRENGTH, AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL
CMS Performance uses of Docol R8 tubing throughout, which lets them keep the driver's rear view unobstructed by the rear diagonal bracing typically used to support weaker roll bars. This also gives you unfettered access to the engine cover without removing any part of your roll bar. Other roll bars require partial removal to get at your engine -- not ideal in a car that sees track time.
The CMS Performance roll bar's rear kickers bolt to the Cayman's rear shock towers, the safest, strongest possible mounting point. This adds rigidity to the chassis and suspension. The main roll hoop is mounted to the frame structure across the rear bulkhead for lighter weight and superior strength.
CUSTOM POWDER COATING THE HALLMARK OF CMS PERFORMANCE
CMS Performance will powder coat your roll bar in a color custom-matched to Porsche's OEM color palette1. Or you can go with a rich satin black powder coat for a stealthy look. Every CMS Performance roll bar is professionally powder-coated to order, in-house by CMS Performance.
Fully TIG welded by master welders using superior materials, the design, strength, fit, and finish of the CMS Performance roll bar all add up to this: you can spend more on a roll bar, but you only get the best from CMS Performance.
SAVE ON RACING HARNESSES WITH YOUR ROLL BAR
Add six-point Schroth Enduro 2x2 GT4 , Schroth Flexi 2x2 GT4 , or Sabelt Silver Series GT4, or four-point Schroth Profi II ASM GT4 harnesses to your order using our convenient pull-down menus above! These harnesses are specifically designed to bolt right up to your Porsche carbon lightweight bucket seats. (Porsche's passenger-side seat does not have a factory sub-strap pass through.)
If you're installing six-point harnesses in your Porsche, we strongly recommend adding the CMS Performance Sub Strap Mounts to your order. They provide a solid, properly located anchor for your anti-submarine straps, are easy to install.
