Like most Carreras, the power output of this Porsche's 3.8L naturally-aspirated engine is controlled to meet a performance target that satisfies mass buyers but not necessarily the dedicated Porsche driving enthusiast. IPD helps scratch the proverbial performance itch for Porsche drivers looking to elevate the already visceral driving experience to the next level.
The 3.8L engine in the 991 Carrera S, GTS, and 4S is relatively unchanged from the previous 997.2 Carrera S, continuing to employ the 82mm throttle body. IPD's new specifically-designed 3.8L DFI Carrera S intake plenum is a direct bolt-on upgrade that replaces the factory air distributor and utilizes all pre-existing factory hardware including that OE factory throttle body.
INCREASED POWER & TORQUE ACROSS THE REV RANGE
The improved IPD intake design creates increased air velocity and air speed resulting in impressive power and torque gains of 15 HP and 14 lbs-ft. at the wheels on an otherwise-stock 991 S. As with most IPD plenums, the bulk of the power gains are realized in the mid-range where they are most used and enjoyed. Unlike other mods, though, the IPD Plenum delivers net power gains across the entire rev range.

Ballistic acceleration and a top speed of over 200 mph places the 991.2 Turbo in a very elite class of supercars. But of course the IPD Y-Pipe (and Plenum) raise the performance bar even higher for Porsche driving enthusiasts who seek fighter jet performance from their German Turbo missiles.
Bigger is not always better when it comes to forced induction applications. While the IPD Y-Pipe is considerably larger than the factory, it's not large enough to cause pressure drop within the intake tract which would result in turbo lag and reduced performance. Utilizing non-round runners, an optimized merge collector area, and IPD's proven dimpled interior surfacing, this optimized design delivers a greater volume of air, improved laminar flow and increased air velocity. These improvements deliver an additional 40 horsepower, 50 lbs-ft. of torque, improved boost response, and more linear power and torque curves.
The 991.2 Turbo Y-Pipe is a direct bolt-on engine upgrade that requires no modifications, but should be performed by an experienced Porsche technician familiar with the 991 platform. The IPD Y-Pipe comes with all the hardware necessary to complete the installation.

The 991.2 Turbos don't substantially benefit from any one particular upgrade, but the sum of IPD's improvements in the intake tract deliver a superior overall 991.2 Turbo/Turbo S compared to the already impressive stock car.
Porsche made a number of substantial upgrades to the 991.2 Turbo engine, including revised intake ports, larger injectors, a higher-volume fuel pump, larger turbo compressor wheels and more efficient intercoolers. But the factory intake system remained relatively unchanged from the 991.1, giving IPD a window of opportunity to upgrade and improve it.
The IPD 991.2 Turbo Competition Plenum delivers excellent engine power and torque gains that raise the performance of the already potent supercar (as well as the hair on the back of your neck). Horsepower gains are made throughout the power band, with the bulk being realized between 3500-5000 RPM. Max gain of 45 wheel horsepower come at 4300 RPM and hold strong all the way to redline. Torque is even more impressive at 60 lbs-ft. in the midrange with a massive torque gains from 3500-5000 RPM.
When combined with the IPD 991.2 Turbo Y-Pipe, available in the drop-down above, gains jump to 70 lbs-ft. of torque and 50 wheel horsepower!
