Now offered in three different sizes, at a lower price, the HANS IV is a new and improved FHR (Frontal Head Restraint) that is 10% lighter than the previous Hans 3. Custom molded pads which nest into the device, preventing slippage, were designed with an upgraded foam for improved comfort and support. Offered in a 20 - degree option, this FHR is perfect for the entry level driver across many race series. HANS Device 4 Head and Neck Restraints are the lightest HANS Sport Series device to date.
HANS IV Frontal Head Restraints present a contemporary approach to building a lightweight, strong, and safe HANS Device. Now in the fourth generation, HANS Device IV Head Restraints have a new design and polymer with a hollow collar which reduces the weight significantly. Its engineered reinforcements guarantee a very strong structure with a reduced mass. HANS Device IV Frontal Head Restraints provide the same level of safety as every HANS Device with the lightest, most comfortable injection-molded HANS made to date.
HANS Device IV Frontal Head Restraints are developed with ease of driver entry/exit in mind. Its rounded back is lower than the original HANS Device design, reducing the risk of getting caught on a roll cage or in window openings when moving in and out of a racecar. Authentic HANS Devices set the standard in top performance in lab crash testing and real-life race crash results.
The HANS IV is only available in a 20o Layback Angle configuration, suitable for the majority of racing applications including most road racing, HPDE, Stock Cars, Modifieds, Drag, Legends, Bandalero cars.

I can touch my chin to my chest with the device on. Are my tethers too long?
No. The HANS Device comes properly adjusted for all drivers. Unless you have changed the tether length, it is fine and will work in an impact.
When I put the device on, it rubs against my neck. Is that normal?
Yes. The front of the HANS Device is narrower to accommodate arm movement. Padding can be modified or removed; it does not affect the device’s performance.
What type of shoulder belts work best with a HANS Device?
Any SFI or FIA approved harness system works with the HANS Device. Two inch or three inch belts, as well as 5-6 or more multi-point systems are all fine.
Do shoulder belts slip off the HANS Device?
Properly mounted belts do not slip off the device. If shoulder belts will not stay securely on the device, you may not have the belt mounts properly located in your chassis.
I race on a short track at relatively low speeds. Do I need a HANS Device?
Yes. Serious head and neck injuries happen at impact speeds as low as 35mph. On short tracks with tight turns it is easy to be turned almost straight into the wall.
How do I care for my HANS device?
HANS Devices need almost no maintenance but should be kept clean and dry. To protect them, HANS Devices should be stored out of direct sunlight. They may be cleaned with soapy warm water. Ensure rubber top surfaces stay clean and free of wear. Tethers should be replaced after any major impact or every 5 years. Tethers carry dated labels. Check your helmet anchors for tightness occasionally.
What if my HANS Device is in an impact?
HANS Devices should be inspected periodically or after any impacts. Examine your device in bright sunlight and run your finger around the edges. Any sign of de-lamination, cracking or exposed composite material means the device has served its purpose and should be replaced.
How long are the SFI and FIA certifications acceptable?
Different race series may have different rules regarding age of certifications. SFI 38.1 requires recertifying your HANS every five (5) years, while FIA 8858 certifications do not expire. Check our website or your race sanctioning body for more information.

The most effective helmet is one that fits properly. To measure your head, have an assistant use a dressmaker's tape or a piece of string to measure the circumference of your head. Start at a point about an inch above your eyebrows, looping around the back of your head at the point that results in the largest measurement, and finally around to the front again. It's a good idea to take two or three measurements to make sure you have the largest one.

The Sparco helmet line is a result of over 40 years of research and development experience, including wind tunnel testing. The new range was designed to meet the requirements of the new Snell SA2020 and FIA 8859-2015 ratings. The 2020 type-approval introduces new impact requirements, the helmets need to dissipate large amounts of energy in different ways. To meet these requirements Sparco is introducing new innovations for driver safety and comfort. All shells now have layers of carbon-Kevlar for greater strength. The helmets have also been wind-tunnel tested to maximize exterior vent placement and flow. The EPS interiors and padding have also been redesigned for increased airflow and driver comfort. Sparco also introduces a new size: Medium/Large. This M/L size takes advantage of using the smaller shell which is lighter and more compact.

The Sparco Air Pro 1977 is a painted version of the Sparco Air Pro RF-5W. This retro inspired helmet has a white base with blue or red stripes and has a clear coat painted over. The Sparco Air Pro 1977 features a carbon-Kevlar/fiberglass construction. It includes a wider eye opening that can be used for open wheel or closed cockpit driving. Multiple exterior vents increase circulation to a redesigned interior. The interior has channels which not only cool the driver, but has additional channels which route air towards the visor, which reduces the chance of visor fogging.
