The GiroDisc rotor utilizes a curved vane design that was originally developed in racing to act as a centrifugal air pump to force cooling air from the center of the rotor ring to the outside. This principle is similar to what is know as a squirrel cage fan design. By having impellers (vanes) between the two rotor faces,  the air is moved radially, from the center outward, changing the direction of the airflow and increasing velocity. This design is mechanically strong, reliable very effective.
